Do the changes you have made slow the boat down under power? Yes, we do loose a little speed due to the drag of the keel bulb hanging below the hull, we're still experimenting with some things to minimize the loss, but I think we will end up about 3 MPH or so slower than a stock boat. We usually cruise about 17 MPH, and I would expect more like 20 with a fully equipped but lightly loaded stock boat and a 70HP engine. We want to try the boat with a stock daggerboard in it to get a direct comparison. We have one too many variables now because we decided to run a Tohatsu 70 DFI engine rather than the Suzuki 4 strokes we usually use to save weight, it's about 45# lighter. There may be some performance difference between the engines, much like a Honda 50 is several MPH slower than a Suzuki 50, so the loss from keel drag could be a little more or a little less than it seems. |
